My areas of practice.

Tax

Got a tax problem?  I'd be glad to help.  I represented the IRS in federal courts in various parts of the country for 5 years and have a master's degree in tax law from Georgetown University.  Since leaving the the government in 2005, I've been helping individuals and businesses beat the IRS--or settle on favorable terms.   I usually accomplish this without going to court.  Before signing with that company that's trying to get you to pay thousands for an offer in compromise or other help, come spend a half an hour with me.  I'll tell you what I'd tell a relative in your situation.  And that's often that you don't need an attorney; you just need to fill out a particular form or wait for a particular notice.  But if you need full-fledged representation that can go all the way to trial, I'd be pleased to provide it.

Probate

When someone dies without a will--or when a will hasn't prevented fighting among potential heirs--courts can resolve things through probate.  I can help you file the necessary papers for an uncontested probate and can help with the nasty court-battle type, as well.  My docket almost always includes several probate cases.   My experience includes resolution of a highly complex probate case involving litigation over ownership of several properties and entities.  After establishing my client's ownership interest at the first trial in the case, the case settled and all other property trials were cancelled.

Business

I mainly help businesses that are in disputes or litigation, but I also help with some other business-related legal projects, including preparing contracts.  Breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, misrepresentation, and unlawful termination (see Employment, below) are just some of the main types of claims I deal with in my business-law practice.  A main area for me has been disputes among business partners over how to divide--or save--a business in crisis.  If your business if falling apart, or if it needs representation on legal claims, please give me a call.

Employment

If you're afraid your employer is about to fire or demote you, please give me a call right away.  I've helped a number of clients in exactly that situation.  If you've already been terminated or demoted, I can help you evaluate your options.  And if your case warrants it, I will help you with file of your claims and--if necessary--go to court over them.

Other

For the right person or case, I've helped people with family law and even criminal matters.  And like probably most attorneys, I've had a broad range of other experience, not all of which fits easily into neat categories.  If you'd like to discuss your situation with me, even if it doesn't fit one of the above categories, you're welcome to ask me about it.  I will tell you if it seems outside my comfort zone or capacity.  I regularly refer people to other attorneys, when I think someone else would be better able to help you.  I'd be glad to tell you if there's someone I recommend for your situation.
